Available for Check-Out: How a Materials Selector Chooses Books for a Library Collection

Matthew Moffett, Materials Selector of Adult Fiction for Fairfax County Public Libraries, will discuss how he chooses books for the library collection and give insight into how libraries acquire books, the software they use, and how libraries consider different formats such as ebooks versus print. He will also discuss how his library handles local authors. This is a unique opportunity for authors and readers alike to get a peek behind the curtain into how books end up on library shelves.

About the Presenter:

Matthew Moffett started working in libraries in 2006. Aside from his day job, he has written book reviews for Library Journal and School Library Journal and served on awards committees with the American Library Association. In his current position as Materials Selector for Fairfax County Matthew selects all the adult fiction for the library system.
