The Agatha Awards, named for Agatha Christie, are literary awards for mystery and crime writers who write in the traditional mystery subgenre: "books typified by the works of Agatha Christie . . . loosely defined as mysteries that contain no explicit sex, excessive gore or gratuitous violence, and are not classified as 'hard-boiled.'" At Malice Domestic on April 27, 2024, the Agatha Awards are handed out  in six categories: Best Novel; Best First Mystery; Best Historical Novel; Best Short Story; Best Non-Fiction; Best Children's/Young Adult Mystery. 

The Chesapeake Chapter of Sisters in Crime is excited to have 8 chapter members nominated! These include:

  • Best Contemporary Mystery Novel: Tara Laskowski's The Weekend Retreat

  • Best First Mystery: Josh Pachter's Dutch Threat and Daphne Silver's Crime and Parchment

  • Best Historical Mystery Novel: Cheryl Head's Times Undoing and Sujata Massey's The Mistress of Bhatia House

  • Best Mystery Short Story: Barb Goffman's "Real Courage," and Dru Ann Love and Kristopher Zgorski's "Happiness is a Warm Gun"

  • Best Non-Fiction: Anjili Babbar's Finders: Justic, Faith and Identity in Irish Crime Fiction

During the meeting, you'll learn more about each author, their works, and advice for other authors.
